There’s Never a Perfect Time—Until It’s Too Late
It’s funny, the way we always think there’s time. We push plans out into the vague “someday,” not because we don’t care, but because life is so demanding, so fast, and so draining.
For Sheridan House Innkeepers Mark and Debbie, one of those “someday” plans was a trip to the Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim—just about 5 hours from the inn.
We’re Just One Hour from the Grand Canyon—But a World Away from the Crowds
Our bed and breakfast is located in Williams, AZ, just an hour from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon—one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Guests come from across the globe to see it, often visiting the iconic but busy South Rim.
But we dreamed of heading to the quieter, more remote North Rim—a thousand feet higher, lined with pine forests and hush-filled overlooks. We pictured sitting on the Lodge’s iconic porch, looking across to the familiar side we know so well, breathing in the silence and the grandeur of a place that’s endured for millennia.
Then Came the Fire
On July 13, 2025, we awoke to the news we never expected: wildfire had swept through the North Rim. Fast. Devastatingly fast. Ancient trees—gone. The North Rim Lodge and most buildings—destroyed.
We’re grateful the area had been evacuated. No lives were lost. The South Rim remains open and untouched, and yes—you can still plan your trip to see the Grand Canyon. We hope you’ll stay with us at Sheridan House Inn while you do.
But still, the loss of the North Rim hit hard. Not just because it’s gone, but because we waited. We waited for “someday.” And suddenly… someday became never.
They’ll rebuild, as they’ve done before. But it will take time.
Nothing Is Promised
It’s easy to believe there will always be another season. Another open weekend. Another paycheck. Another chance. But life rarely waits for the right moment.
Fires come. Storms roll in. Diagnoses interrupt everything. The world is breathtaking—and heartbreakingly fragile.
So if there’s a trip you’ve been thinking about, a view you’ve wanted to see, a trail you’ve wanted to hike… take it.
What We Learned from the North Rim
Don’t wait for the perfect conditions, the perfect weather, or the perfect you. Go with your imperfect plans and your full heart.
Call in those vacation days. Toss your bag in the car. Hike the trail. Eat the food you don’t usually eat. Splurge on the lodging where you’re cared for. Stand at the edge of awe.
Let your memories be made from footprints and laughter—not regrets and missed chances.
Visit While You Still Can
Whether you’re headed to the Grand Canyon, looking for a place to reconnect, or just needing a pause from the busy pace of life—come stay with us. We’ll help you build a trip that doesn’t wait for “someday.”

One of my trips to the North Rim was with my late husband, only 4 months before I lost him. We sat on that porch and took in the beautiful grandeur of the North Rim!
A few years later I returned there,I needed to see that beauty again! I am now so happy I dared to look goofy and took so many photos using my selfie stick!
So Yes GO, Take That Trip And Enjoy Life before it’s too late.
